Hi Boris,

It was SO much more interesting when ODIs counted towards WC qualification, especially for the 'smaller' nations. But the World Cup Super League was deemed surplus to requirements once the WC was expanded to 14 teams for the 2027 edition...great pity.

I think this is a good opportunity to give other fringe players a chance to showcase their capabilities and have a good pool for South Africa in future to pick from. No disrespect to either Afghanistan or Ireland but it works in favour of Proteas in my opinion. Even India did that against Zimbabwe in July.

Yep, and I reckon that Indian 'B' team could have beaten any other team in the world! There is so much depth in Indian cricket thanks to the IPL - they could pick three different squads and play a Triangular series and nobody would be able to pick a winner. South Africa is not in that position... :)
