India and the West Indies have floundered at the T20 World Cup because they allowed seniority, sentiment and reputation to cloud their judgement in the selection of both squads and starting XIs before the tournament. South Africa made some hard, dispassionate calls before the squad was announced but there may be more required before its conclusion.
One comment regarding bending the knee. How can we accept players bending the knee(against racism) when our own national selection policies are race/quota based? When will we have a merit only selection system?
Agree Neil. Thanks for the article. As a contacted employee myself, my personal views are quite irrelevant when it comes to my obligations to my employer. I am free to resign. No tyranny in that. Taking the knee is the least one can do. No effort. For South Africans its about non-racism- we are not 'transported' to the USA. To assume they/we are now harbouring Marxist thoughts of defunding the police is insulting to people like Rassie & Temba et al. But of course CSA management was last minute "drama" as usual as QDK said. #ProteaFire let's move on....
Good read! Thanks Manners.
