Pakistan are likely the big losers in all of this. They will lose some bilateral series and gain nothing from the IPL going ahead, despite the BCCI saying with a straight face that Pakistan players are not banned from the IPL!
You are absolutely correct, Oz. There will, perhaps, be some sort of financial compensation negotiated. But if not, if the BCCI use the situation to exert their power and control over the PCB, then we could witness a series of ghastly skirmishes...
Sun City was widely regarded as a white elephant, wasn't it? Ha!Ha! For years after it was built South Africans continued to believe it would be an embarrassing flop. But more and more people went to "see for themselves" and, well, build it and the people will come.
Very true Neil. On a positive note I live in Dubai and have since before it became flavour of the month having come here in 2001 well before the boom in 2003, and plan on returning to retire in 2024, I watched the stadium being built, so I will relish being able to attend the WC should it happen.
One day I'd love to visit you in Dubai and get your first-hand, expat's account of the last quarter of a century. I lived in Khor Fakhan in the 80s and have visited many times since 2010 for cricket. Many projects have seemed absurd, and some have been, but the ski-slope was the most ridiculous. And one of the most successful, I'm told. So what do we mere journalists know? :)
Would love to share some stories over a few beers. 2003-2009 were the most unbelievable, the property boom here was like the wild west, with people running around literally with brief cases of cash (deposits) to secure property, then re-sell 15 minutes later to a guy at the back of the queue for a 200-300k Aed profit. And thats a true story.

Much like Sol said in 1979 when he announced Sun City and was poo - pooed from Jhb to shitsville!
