Time for a South African Kerry Packer to take professional cricket out of their hands. I'm sure the ICC would recognise the new professional body and leave these amateurs to run amateur cricket without their sponsors.
Anton, the privatisation of international sport - and sports teams - is a debate which may increase in intensity in the years to come. It's not relevant to the 'major' nations but it is here...
Imagine trying to negotiate with CSA on the Aus tour?? After you bad mouthed CA maybe you now can see there were 2 sides to this saga Neil. AND COVID would have killed it as too risky to send anyone to SA let alone your top elite sports persons
I think the trend is firmly in place - look at the US sports, UK soccer etc. IPL is taking that cricket impersonator sport T20, down that route. Rugby franchises are a move in that direction. Somehow, the move always gets a little nudge when the "amateur" or old format administrators lose sight of their actual role in the sport.
I owe you a couple of coffees- we can chat further, turn that into a meal if the Wiz ever gets to Cape Town again.
Thanks Neil. Well put.
