Weak leadership is a feature of SA, in government & business. Yes, we believe in consensus & giving people a 'second chance' and listen to all sides which is good, but eventually somebody has to have the guts to make a decision. Leaders seem terrified to make decisions. We saw that in the past fortnight in Parly. The decisions around NCC & Border Cricket are a good sign. Enjoy the Champions Trophy! I'm not confident about our bowling....
What's the solution, Dave? How do we create strong leaders? Actually, can they even be created? Given the country's belligerent history I find it fascinating that decisive decision-making is so rare. Way back in 1994 the bureau chief of Reuters told me: "Now begins the era of committees... no political party in history has, or will, form more committees and sub-committees than the ANC." In a way it's probably something we should be proud of... is it better to have too much democracy than not enough?
