Referring to himself as “a useful cricketer” in his youth is just one of many of his delusions (a “mediocre lower league cricketer” would be more accurate) that seem to derive from the massive chip he has on his shoulder. His previous political interference in cricket administration was, I believe, contrary to ICC rules and probably was an early intervention the set in motion the rot that has left SA cricket declining from World #1 to where we now sit among the minnows, with an administration that is no more than a rotting carcass on which the scavengers are still feeding. He may appear to be preferable to the gangsters that have taken over the rotting carcass, but that does not make him a desirable person to be involved at the helm of our (former) beloved sport
Oh dear, Jock. There are some really, really good people on the new board - I promise you. Give them a chance. The carcass-nibblers are now very much in the minority, although some are still there... :)
Thanks for that Neil - a long read indeed, however I remain skeptical in respect of his motives. How can a man, who openly urged (almost instructed) the Board to resign, then willingly join the majority of that Board and "hope" that it will all work? He certainly succeeded of re--seating himself on the gravy train and is how "happy" to "work" with the Board that he wanted to resign - it sends a clear message that he is only upset with the way the Board administered the game since he was not part of it - and now that he is - it's all good....
I am apologise if I am too negative, naturally we the cricket (not administers) loving nation only want the best - and that would be only cricket in the news and not the political back stabbing of the CSA in the news - I mean how often to you ready about the NZ governing body - I would not even know who the president is...since they all work for the good of their Nation and the good of their Nations cricket - and look at them now.....
Thanks for the reply, Mark. I don't pretend to know all the answers - or even very many of them. I just believe it is important that we continue to question ourselves and our perceptions of people and their views and motives. My views on Norman Arendse probably hadn't changed for years and that made me feel lazy, so that was my reason for attempting a 'deep dive' interview. He wouldn't keep bouncing back, and having influential people support him, if he was 'all bad.'
Agreed - all we want is a good outcome for SA Cricket at the end of the day. Thanks for the good work and great perspective you provide Neil. Look me up when you in Dubai for the T20 - and we can sink a couple at Monty's. :)
Nothing is ever very simple with CSA, especially off the field! But Norman Arendse isn't going anywhere because he wants to be there and he wants to do good work. He has a lot of drive and energy - it must be channeled in the right direction. :)
Thought about it but 20 yrs playing 7 yrs on MCC World cricket committee 4 yrs coaching 1st class level 10 yrs as CEO Queensland cricket wasn’t quite enough ….😂

Well, I really, really hope you are right and I am wrong. Otherwise we are properly doomed!

Over-qualified... :)
