The average runs per wicket in first-class cricket in that 1990 season was 39.68, easily the highest in a season in England. Fanie de Villiers took his 25 wickets for Kent that season at ... 39.68.
I followed the county game closely in the seventies and eighties- for obvious reasons: Richards, Procter, Rice, van der Bijl, le Roux, etc on the biggest stage they had available at the time!
But I have only ever been to one game live: at Scarborough a few years ago. Such a unique ground ! Are you able to label your photos so we know which grounds they are ?
How lovely to hear from you - I actually had breakfast with Vince a couple of days ago... I LOVED Scarborough went I went a couple of times in the late 80s. I expect it's changed considerably since then. Maybe it was the town I enjoyed most - can't actually remember much of the ground! The photos I used in the column were of Canterbury, Taunton and Derby. I wish I knew how to use the caption option on Substack! Apologies... :)

Looking forward to seeing Cheteshwar Pujara and Jaydev Unadkat for Sussex
