There's a lot of talk of the Lions Rugby moving from Ellis park due to lack of crowds, apart from team performance the main argument there is the location has become too dodgy and people are too scared to park there cars and walk around the area. This is not the case for the Wanderers but even less people went?!

The scary thing is that we were actually not that far off from making the WTC final and could end up 3rd, with a horror tour of Australia the main reason for not making it. As doom and gloom as it has seemed, despite our woeful batting we are not actually that bad at test cricket currently.

I don't even need to look at the numbers, but it's obvious that SA cricket just need to hold more test matches at newlands, instead they are doing the opposite. They are the only ground that gets spectators. Since covid/2020 SA will have hosted 9 test matches by the end of this tour, with just 1 at Newlands.

SP Park and Newlands are the only happy venues.

I am surprised at how expensive the tickets are for a test match that no one is attending.

R200 for adult or child on the grass embankment!

For a family of 4 or 5, it is not cheap.

Our administrators have run the local game into the ground. Where political interference ends and incompetence, greed and self-interest begin doesn't really matter.

We get new boards and new executives and new coaches and its the same disasters on and off the field. I suppose that's the end result of true corruption, it hollows the thing out from the inside, leaving an empty shell resembling the thing in its former glory but with no substance. When the shocks come, it just withers away. Reminds me of a certain utility we're currently living with.

We don't have the economies of the big three so we should be making great decisions and punching above our weight, like New Zealand has done. But there's just nothing left.

What brings me some hope is that South Africans still love the game. Perhaps its time to get more local, support the local games in our communities, schools and clubs, and provinces -- try as best we might to keep the flame burning...

I’m flabbergasted that a city the size of Joburg can only get 300 people to go to a test match. The people of SA don’t deserve test cricket. It’s a shame that can’t get England over every year as there would be a guaranteed 3,000 per day per test.
