Why does cricket insist on repeatedly shooting itself in the foot? And as for the snooty responses from the club, I won’t say what I think about those on a public forum…

It's incredibly frustrating, Ben. There's just too many people working within cricket who genuinely don't understand the feelings of the people who follow it. It was an opportunity to watch elite cricketers perform in a relaxed and pressure-free environment where the result didn't matter. Everyone I spoke to involved in organising it told me: "It's just a practise match." Proof that they don't understand. There were fans who wanted to watch BECAUSE it was a practise match...!

Yes. Like if Paul McCartney was singing a few songs down at your local pub as a warm-up for Glastonbury or something, you’d still want to go. It’s just a missed opportunity to engage with fans who put a lot of time and money into the game.

I absolutely love cricket but sometimes it’s all very baffling

Very strange indeed...moving on. I am getting nervously excited for the match and being at Lords! See you there

This is the same ECB who have sold the game to the franchise Hundred, so it’s no surprise they don’t understand pure love for cricket. In their books and minds, if it doesn’t involve a fast buck, it doesn’t merit any thought.

Farcical. Hopefully there will be play after yesterday's rain. I hear the IPL is finished, at last. Attention now on the WTC Final.
