Hi Neil - the sculpture is called Timothy Stableman by sculptor Hannah Kidd, part of her Avonside Drive series: “everyday heroes based on people Hannah witnessed in the Methven and Christchurch communities offering gestures of kindness, supporting others, or maintaining familiar routines following the Canterbury earthquakes”
Hi Neil. Glad you are enjoying Christchurch. An interesting fact is that England's Brydon Carse was born & educated in Port Elizabeth, & Glenn Phillps the Black Cap was born 300 km away in East London! Brydon's father James was a fast bowler for EP in the Kepler Wessels era. Thanks Lorraine Austin
Test cricket scoring rates (runs per over) have increased in recent years and very few end up in a 5- day draw. Many innovative shots have been introduced to test cricket. Thats good to see. Bowlers however can only drive the human body to bowl so fast & there may be less really fearsome quick bowlers around now. Spinners & slow bowlers- many good ones but we had Murali, Warne, Mushtak & McGill before anyway. Possibly the 'herd' playing test cricket has strengthened. But not for the Proteas, yet. Graham Smith's team was very skilled, in all departments. Our current team is promising, but very dependent on KG, Tristan & Kesh. Let's see, I hope they prove me wrong! Weather in Durban does not look promising?
